PAINTED PROTOTYPE - Game of Thones Daenerys for McFarlane Toys

6" figure
Painted prototype of Daenerys Targaryen for McFarlane Toys.
Photographed by Jess Talos; art direction by Ed Frank, Andy Frank, and Mike Gulen.
Emilia Clarke is a lovely person, it was a fun project to paint her likeness.
The dress was fairly simple, just a dark grey with a careful drybrush to highlight the chevron pattern. I loved the cloak she wears, it came out very close to the reference with just a base color and a wash.
But I have mixed feelings about this project with all the problems surrounding her portrait. The sculpt ended up extremely bug-eyed, to the point my art director took her head and sandpapered them completely off to a flat surface. We ended up using the giant double-sized head for paint approvals, which I do think came out very lovely.
I wish I had more time to really get her perfect, but I think she came out alright all things considered.
